Bolivar, Mo. – The week began with a Monday afternoon tennis match between the Bearcats and the Lindenwood Lions at the
John Bryant Tennis Center on the campus of Southwest Baptist University. Dominating the Lions, the Bearcats won the match by a score of 5-0 to improve to 10-8 on (1-0 GLVC) on the year. The men's team is 2-1 against teams in the GLVC, but the conference standings are divided into a West division and an East division. SBU has only played one member of the GLVC West division, going 1-0 in divisional play.
Alvaro Nunez and
David Szeri began doubles play with a strong 6-1 win on court 3.
Adham Gaber and
Youssef Nabil also took care of business, defeating their opponents 6-2 on court 2. A clean sweep of doubles play was completed when
Max Sanoja and
Carlos Corser won on court 1, 6-4.
Senior
Carlos Corser was the first to finish his singles match, losing just 2 games to defeat his opponent 6-2, 6-0 on court 2.
Adham Gaber fought hard to win his first set 7-5, but handled his second set to win 6-2 on court 1. Another dominating victory occurred on court 4, as
David Szeri surrendered just 2 games as well, winning 6-0, 6-2 to officially win the match for the Bearcats.
Alvaro Nunez won his first set 6-2, but fell in a 9-7 tiebreak in the second set, later taking the match with a 6-2 final set on court 3 to make the final score 5-0.
The team will head to the Kansas City area this weekend, taking on GLVC West opponents in Rockhurst and William Jewell.
