Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist finished up the series against #6 ranked Illinois-Springfield with a 7-0 loss in the first game and a 10-5 loss in the second game. This makes the Bearcats record 14-18 (10-17 GLVC) on the season.
Game One
Logan Sorrell drew his first start of the year in the first game and pitched well, going 4 innings and only allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run against the high-powered offense of the Prairie Stars. The Bearcats couldn't find a hit in the game but worked 4 walks out of the Prairie Stars pitcher.
Zack Ehlen drew two walks to get on base the most for the Bearcats.
Brett Wilbanks also came on in relief in the 5
th inning to go 2 full innings and only allow 2 hits and no runs.
Game Two
The Bearcats found their bats early in the second game of the doubleheader when
Rhys Cratty reached on an error from the shortstop that scored
Zack Ehlen to tie the game up at one through the first inning.
Zack Ehlen would notch another one on the board in the 3
rd with a leadoff home run to left field. UIS would extend their lead out to 7-2 through 5 and a half innings but
Eli Smock would drive in
Sam Avila in the bottom of the 6
th to cut into that lead.
Jackson Soule would have a big hit in the 7
th inning when he doubled to deep left center to drive in
Josh Scott and make it a 2-run game going into the 8
th.
Zack Ehlen and
Jackson Soule each had 2 hits along with an RBI to pace the Bearcats.
Dalton Morrow came on in relief to pitch 3 innings and keep the Bearcats in it with no earned runs crossing and striking out 5.
The Bearcats will travel for their last road series of the year against Missouri S&T starting on April 30 and going through May 2.
