Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist got a huge upset over #6 nationally ranked Illinois-Springfield by the score of 4-0 after dropping the first game 11-1. This doubleheader split makes the Bearcats record 14-16 on the season and 10-15 in the GLVC conference.
Game One
Kyle Smith drew the start in the first game and worked out of a few early jams including having 3 baserunners in the first inning and only allowing one run. The Prairie Stars would extend their lead to 7-0 through 4 innings before
Josh Scott would get the Bearcats on the board with a deep homer to left center.
Eli Smock led the Bearcats in hits with 2 in 3 plate appearances. Scott had the lone run and RBI for Southwest Baptist.
Game Two
Southwest Baptist got the bats started early when
Rhys Cratty singled to drive in
Zack Ehlen after he stole second base in the first inning. The second inning would supply another run from a
Jackson Soule home run to deep left field to make it 2-0. Soule would single to center field in the 4
th inning to bring
Rhys Cratty around to score the 3
rd run of the game. The final insurance run would come in the bottom of the 6
th with a leadoff no-doubt home run from
Rhys Cratty.
Ryan Carmack shut down the powerful bats of UIS with 7 innings pitched and striking out 9 batters and only allowing 4 hits.
Jackson Soule and
Rhys Cratty each finished with 2 hits including a home run along with 2 RBIs apiece.
Southwest Baptist will look to finish out the series strong tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
