Bolivar, Mo. – Missouri-St. Louis visited Bolivar Sunday afternoon, taking on the SBU Tennis teams in a rescheduled match that was originally set to take place on Friday, April 16. The women's team defeated the Tritons 5-2 to improve to 14-5 and a perfect 4-0 in the GLVC West Division.
The #19 doubles team in the nation in
Dona Abohabaga and
Constanca Crespo handled the #21 ranked doubles team on court 1, defeating the Triton duo 6-2 to begin the day.
Catarina Zheng and
Elsa Pascual followed with a dominating 6-1 victory on court 2 to claim the doubles point. UMSL won court 3 by a score of 6-2, but SBU had already taken a 1-0 lead.
Diana Cabrera was the first to finish singles play, defeating her opponent on court 2 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Constanca Crespo followed with a similar score of 6-1, 6-2 on court 3. Winning the match-clinching point was senior
Dona Abohabaga, owning court 1 by scores of 6-4, 6-0. SBU's fifth point came from
Catarina Zheng who took court 4 in straight sets as well, 6-4, 6-3. The Tritons earned their two points on courts 5 and 6 after the Bearcats had already won the match.
The women's team will play two more regular season matches. The first match will be against Quincy University on Friday, April 23 at 2:00 PM, and their final match will be against Truman State on Saturday, April 24 at 11:00 AM. Both matches will be played in Bolivar.
