Indianapolis, Ind. – The SBU Softball team wrapped up their trip out east Sunday afternoon playing against the Indianapolis Greyhounds. Southwest Baptist fell to the #5 nationally ranked Greyhounds, 6-1 in game one and 10-0 in game two. Following Sunday's results, the Bearcats are 2-32 (1-19 GLVC) on the season.
Game One
Renae Gillmore began the game with a single through the left side. She was later called out at second on a fielder's choice.
Reilly Rupert got the start on the mound and had solid outing. An SBU runner was moved into scoring position in the 3
rd, but nothing would come of the threat. UINDY managed to load the bases in the 4
th with no outs, but solid pitching and defense kept the score 0-0. However, the Greyhounds had a big 5
th inning, plating 5 runs. All of those runs were unearned. In the top of the 6
th,
Katlynn McConville homered to left to make the score 5-1 UINDY, but they responded with a homerun in the 6
th to make a final score of 6-1.
Renae Gillmore recorded 2 hits in the game, and
Abby Henson had a disciplined game at the plate by drawing 3 walks.
Game Two
UINDY got their bats going early, scoring 3 runs in the first. After a scoreless second inning, the Greyhounds plated another 4 runs in the 3
rd to take a 7-0 lead. With one out in the top of the fourth,
Alissa Collette reached on an error and advanced to third thanks to a double from
Emma Ezzell.
Rylee Lunn drew a walk to load the bases, but the hosts were able to get out of the jam with a double play. Three more unearned runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth, ending the game 10-0 after five innings.
Next on the schedule for the team will be a mid-week non-conference doubleheader against former MIAA foes, Missouri Southern State University. Those games will be played in Joplin, MO with a game one start time of 3:00 PM.
