#5 Nationally Ranked Greyhounds Best Bearcats on the Road

Indianapolis, Ind. – The SBU Softball team wrapped up their trip out east Sunday afternoon playing against the Indianapolis Greyhounds. Southwest Baptist fell to the #5 nationally ranked Greyhounds, 6-1 in game one and 10-0 in game two. Following Sunday's results, the Bearcats are 2-32 (1-19 GLVC) on the season.

Game One
Renae Gillmore began the game with a single through the left side. She was later called out at second on a fielder's choice. Reilly Rupert got the start on the mound and had solid outing. An SBU runner was moved into scoring position in the 3rd, but nothing would come of the threat. UINDY managed to load the bases in the 4th with no outs, but solid pitching and defense kept the score 0-0. However, the Greyhounds had a big 5th inning, plating 5 runs. All of those runs were unearned. In the top of the 6th, Katlynn McConville homered to left to make the score 5-1 UINDY, but they responded with a homerun in the 6th to make a final score of 6-1.

Renae Gillmore recorded 2 hits in the game, and Abby Henson had a disciplined game at the plate by drawing 3 walks.

Game Two
UINDY got their bats going early, scoring 3 runs in the first. After a scoreless second inning, the Greyhounds plated another 4 runs in the 3rd to take a 7-0 lead. With one out in the top of the fourth, Alissa Collette reached on an error and advanced to third thanks to a double from Emma Ezzell. Rylee Lunn drew a walk to load the bases, but the hosts were able to get out of the jam with a double play. Three more unearned runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth, ending the game 10-0 after five innings.

Next on the schedule for the team will be a mid-week non-conference doubleheader against former MIAA foes, Missouri Southern State University. Those games will be played in Joplin, MO with a game one start time of 3:00 PM.
