Kirksville, Mo. – Southwest Baptist split the Saturday doubleheader with Truman State, taking the first game 13-1 and dropping the second game 7-3. This makes the Bearcats record on the season 12-15 (8-14 GLVC).
Game One
Zack Ehlen started the game off with a bang when he sent a ball over the left field wall to start the game. The Bearcats added another in the 2
nd inning and then
Josh Scott started the onslaught in the 4
th with a two-run bomb after
Jackson Soule singled to start the inning. Ehlen drove in the 3
rd and 4
th runs of the inning with a single through the left side.
Jackson Soule finished off the 7-run inning when he drove in
Rhys Cratty. Cratty drove in the 11
th and12
th runs of the game for the Bearcats in the 5
th inning with a single down the left field line that scored
Eli Smock and
Zack Ehlen.
Ryan Carmack threw another gem to stay undefeated, going 6 innings and striking out 8 while only allowing 4 hits.
Zack Ehlen led the team at the plate with 2 hits on 2 plate appearances and driving in 3 runs while also scoring 3 runs.
Rhys Cratty also pitched in 2 hits along with 2 RBIs and a run.
Game Two
The second game of the day started off in Truman State's favor with 2 runs crossing in the 1
st inning. The Bulldogs would extend their lead to 7-0 through the 5
th inning.
Blake Lutgen would get the Bearcats on the board with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored
Sam Avila. The Bearcats would attempt a comeback in the 7
th inning when
Zack Ehlen drove in
Blake Ford on a single up the middle and
Jackson Soule would hit a sacrifice fly to bring Ehlen across but would be unable to plate anymore and drop the game by a final score of 7-3.
Jackson Soule,
Blake Lutgen, and
Zack Ehlen would pace the Bearcats with a hit and RBI from each of them.
Kyle Smith drew the start on the bump and would only allow 2 walks through 4 innings pitched.
Timothy Glenn and
Jacob Martin would come in from the bullpen to finish off the final two innings and would combine to strike out 4 batters.
The Bearcats will look to split the series when they face Truman State for the final game of the series tomorrow at 12:00.
