Ezzell Homers Twice and Drives in Four Versus the Tritons

Bolivar, Mo. – The softball team got things going in the SBU athletic department Monday afternoon, hosting Missouri-St. Louis in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved due to weather. The Tritons took both games, a 13-4 game one finish and a 5-1 game two final. After those games, the Bearcats are 2-28 (1-15 GLVC) on the season.

Game One
With runners on second and third, the Bearcats were able to get out of the jam unharmed. Renae Gillmore led off the bottom of the first with a walk and moved to third on a Rylee Lunn single. An error by the Tritons brought Gillmore home for a 1-0 lead. With two on, Emma Ezzell blasted a homerun over the center field wall, boosting the lead to 4-0 after one. UMSL rallied and responded with a 4 spot of their own in the next inning to tie things up. They plated another couple in the third, taking a 6-4 lead. Another 2 runs were scored in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th, making the final score 13-4.

Game Two
The visitors struck first, scoring 2 runs in their first opportunity. Renae Gillmore reached on a single to start things for SBU, but UMSL kept things to a minimum. Another Triton run was scored in the 2nd, but the relay of Morgan McMullin to Nicole Horstman to Alyssa Reed hosed the second UMSL run attempting to score to end the inning. In SBU's portion of the 2nd inning, Emma Ezzell launched her second homerun of the day over the right center fence to cut the deficit to 3-1. SBU escaped a couple threats by the Tritons in the 3rd and the 5th, but surrendered a couple more in the 7th. Izzy Harrison led off the 7th with a single and was moved to second when Abby Henson drew a walk after a long at-bat, but the Tritons ended up taking the game 5-1.

Emma Ezzell led the SBU offense with 4 RBI on the day, knocking two over the fence. Game one's 7 hits were divided amongst 7 different Bearcats, Abby Henson picking up the other extra base hit.

The team hits the road for a lengthy trip to Indiana, facing Southern Indiana on Saturday, April 17 and Indianapolis on Sunday, April 18. Both series are scheduled for 12:00 PM starts.
