Wichita Falls, Tex. – Saturday marked the last two games of the Midwestern Tournament. The women's team defeated their opponents handily, not surrendering a single point on the day to improve to 7-3 on the season.
Match One
Playing against the Oklahoma Baptist Bison, the Bearcats won all three doubles matches losing just 2 sets out of the 19 sets played.
Dona Abohabaga and
Constanca Crespo won their match first on court 1, 6-1.
Catarina Zheng and
Elsa Pascual were up 5-1 on court two when they won by retirement. Finally,
Diana Cabrera and
Lola Cincunegui defeated their opponents 6-0 on court 3.
Lola Cincunegui picked up the second point for SBU on court 6 due to her opponent retiring.
Catarina Zheng then won on court 4 6-1, 6-0, and
Elsa Pascual finished things out with a dominant 6-0 6-0 sweep on court 5, sealing the 4-0 victory over the Bison.
Match Two
The second match of the day featured the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots. The doubles teams of Abohabaga/Crespo (6-2 on court 1) and Zheng/Pascual (6-3 on court 2) finished their matches so quickly that court 3 was unable to finish before advancing to singles play.
Dona Abohabaga continued to play strong in singles play, defeating her opponent 6-1 6-2 to give SBU a 2-0 lead.
Catarina Zheng also handed her opponent a loss, winning 6-2 6-2 on court 4. It was
Diana Cabrera who helped seal the sweep with a 6-2 6-0 victory on court 2.
Although Midwestern State was the host of this tournament, the teams didn't meet this weekend. They will play in SBU's next matchup on March 12 in Bolivar.
