Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Volleyball team played host to McKendree and Maryville for a GLVC Triangular on Saturday. After falling to McKendree in the morning match, they bounced back to defeat Maryville in the evening game to improve to 2-5 on the year.
Match One
McKendree won the first set 25-17, but SBU responded with a strong 25-15 win in set two. After falling in the second set, McKendree tightened things up and won set three 25-16 and set four 25-12. Ashely Lasher recorded 10 kills and 11 digs in that match.
Ashleigh DeWees led the team with 14 assists, and
Delanie Tipton had 4 blocks.
SBU won an exciting first set 25-22, holding off the rallying Saints to go up 1-0. Set two was another close one, going 25-23 to Maryville. They also won set three 25-13, but fell 27-25 in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set. Maryville had leads of 11-6 and 13-8, but SBU rallied back to take the set and the match, 16-14.
Ashley Lasher's 20 kills and
Chanelle Boldridge's 32 digs were both game highs.
Loran Pritchett recorded 32 assists, and
Rachel Francis finished with 3 blocks.
The team will be back in action on Saturday, March 13 with a triangular hosted by Southern Indiana. Along with a match against USI, the Bearcats will face Truman State.
