Emporia, Kan. – Southwest Baptist dropped a pair of games to Wayne State and Emporia State in day two of the 5-State Classic. SBU fell short to Wayne State 7-1 and then dropped the late game 3-0 to Emporia State.
Game One
Southwest Baptist fell down early to Wayne State but made another comeback attempt in the final inning.
Renae Gillmore led off the seventh with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a stolen base in the next at-bat.
Kaitlyn Bagby pinch hit and drove Gillmore in with two outs to score the Bearcats only run of the game. Gillmore and
Bailey Elmore led the Bearcats with 2 hits each. Gillmore and
Izzy Harrison also had a stolen base each in the game.
Hallie Henderson drew the start allowing just 1 earned on on 6 hits in 5 innings pitched.
Game Two
Emma Wood had the start for the Bearcats going 4 and one third innings and allowing just 2 earned runs. Emporia State would score all their runs in the 5
th inning. Southwest Baptist out hit Emporia 9 to 6 but couldn't capitalize and bring across any runs.
Rylee Lunn led at the plate with 3 hits on 4 at-bats along with
Morgan McMullin and
Alyssa Reed also having 2 hits each.
Hallie Henderson came on in relief for Wood to go an inning and two thirds and not allow any runs.
