Wichita Falls, Tex. – Saturday marked the last two games of the Midwestern Tournament. The men's team defeated their opponents handily, beating OBU 4-0 and UTT 4-1 to improve to 5-4 on the season.
Match One
The Bearcats had a clean sweep against the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist, winning 4-0.
David Szeri and
Alvaro Nunez didn't surrender a single match on court 3, winning 6-0.
Youssef Nabil and
Adham Gaber then won on court 2, 6-3 to win the doubles point.
David Szeri was the first to finish in singles play, handing his opponent a 6-2 6-1 loss.
Adham Gaber followed with a 6-2 6-3 victory on court 1, and
Alvaro Nunez sealed the 4-0 sweep with a 6-1 6-3 finish on court 3.
Match Two
University of Texas at Tyler fell to SBU 4-1 in the second match of the day. The duo of Nunez/Szeri won court 3 in doubles play, 6-4. A tight finish on court 2 gave SBU the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play, 7-6 win by
Youssef Nabil and
Adham Gaber.
Again it was Szeri dominating the day, winning 6-1 6-1 on court 4. UTT then picked up their first point on court 2, trailing 2-1.
Adham Gaber gave SBU a 3-1 lead after coming behind to defeat his opponent 2-6 6-3 6-4 on court 1. The match was sealed by
Alvaro Nunez winning 6-7 6-1 6-2 on court 3.
Although Midwestern State was the host of this tournament, the teams didn't meet this weekend. They will play in SBU's next matchup on March 12 in Bolivar.
