Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist got the bats going quickly and kept them going in the doubleheader sweep of Mary University to win the series 3-1. The Bearcats won the first game 8-1 and the second game 13-2 to push their record to 3-1 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.
Game One
Mary got on the board first with a run in the first inning but SBU got that back and took the lead in the second inning when
Blake Ford hit a home run and
Rhys Cratty tripled home
Sam Avila. The Bearcats broke it open with in the fourth inning when 3 players walked and got driven in on 3 more hits in the inning drove in a total of 3 runs.
Dalton Morrow had the start and went the full 7 innings allowing just 1 run and striking out 11.
Josh Scott led the Bearcats with 2 hits. Scott and
Colby Sneed each had 2 RBI's as well.
Blake Ford had 1 hit in the game but it was a big one, sailing over the fence in left for a solo home run.
Game Two
The Bearcats used an unorthodox method to score 13 runs in the second game with just 4 hits but drawing 18 walks in the game. Southwest Baptist used a big 6
th inning to blow it out and plate 6 runs. The innings started out with 5 straight walks followed by a 2-run single by
Josh Scott.
Blake Lutgen had 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 RBI's and 2 runs in the game to lead the Bearcats. SBU finished with 3 players having 2 RBI's and 3 more scoring 2 runs.
Kyle Smith dealt on the mound with just 3 hits being allowed and striking out 7 in 5 innings pitched.
Drew Wagner came on in relief to go 3 innings and allow just 4 hits.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action on March 12 at 5:00 in Bolivar to face off against Maryville University and open up the GLVC season.
