Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist started off the GLVC season with 4-2 and 7-2 wins over Maryville. These wins pushed the Bearcats record to 5-1 (2-0 GLVC) for the season.
Game One
Ryan Carmack drew the start on the mound and got into some trouble in the first with the bases loaded and no outs. On the next at-bat Maryville hit a flyball to
Zack Ehlen in center field who gunned it home to throw out the runner tagging up from third for a double play.
Jackson Soule drove in
Colby Sneed in the bottom of the first inning to tie it back up. SBU took a 2-1 lead in the fourth until Maryville tied it back up in the top of the 7
th inning.
Rhys Cratty drew a one out walk in the bottom of the seventh to set up
Brendan Roop who blasted a walk-off homer over the left field wall for the 4-2 victory.
Ryan Carmack went 6 full innings only allowing 1 earned run and striking out 8.
Cole Van Every entered in the 7th and picked up the win.
Game Two
The Saints took the lead in the 3
rd inning off a home run, but the Bearcats responded with 5 runs in the 4
th inning to take the lead.
Rhys Cratty singled home the first run of the inning with 1 out and bases loaded. With the bases still loaded,
Zack Ehlen hit a rope to left field that got to the wall and cleared the bases with a triple. Ehlen scored during the next at-bat to give the Bearcats a 5-1 lead. The Bearcats scored two more times in the 5
th inning after two errors from the Saints. The Bearcats finished with 6 players with a hit and
Zack Ehlen led the team with 3 RBI's.
Dalton Morrow started the game and went 6 innings only allowing 2 hits and striking 10 out.
The Bearcats will be traveling to Lebanon, Ill. to face McKendree on March 19
th.
