Wichita Falls, Tex. – On the first day of the Wichita Falls tournament hosted by Midwestern State, the Women's Tennis team went 1-1, falling 4-3 to #13 Angelo State and defeating Southern Arkansas 4-1 to make their record 5-3 on the year.
Match One
SBU and ASU met last weekend in the ITA Indoor Nationals, where SBU upset ASU 3-4 in the semi-finals. Friday's match began with a dominant 6-1 win on court 1 from
Dona Abohabaga and
Constanca Crespo. Although ASU evened the doubles score at 1-1 from the tight court 2 results,
Diana Cabrera and
Lola Cincunegui lifted SBU to a 1-0 lead after doubles thanks to their 7-5 win on court 3.
The Rams responded with the first two singles victories, winning on courts 4 and 3.
Diana Cabrera evened the score with her 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win on court 2, and
Dona Abohabaga gave SBU a 3-2 lead with two courts left in play. Angelo State rallied for the win, taking the victories on courts 5 and 6 to take the whole match 4-3.

Doubles teams of
Dona Abohabaga/
Constanca Crespo and
Diana Cabrera/
Lola Cincunegui dominated their opponents on courts 1 and 3, both winning 6-2 to take the doubles point.
The Muleriders responded with a court 4 victory, evening things at 1. From that point, SBU dominated the remainder of the match, winning on courts 2, 1, and 3.
Diana Cabrera defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-3,
Dona Abohabaga won her match 6-3, 6-4, and
Constanca Crespo sealed the victory 7-6, 6-3.
The team continues play in the Midwestern Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, March 6 with matches against Oklahoma Baptist at 9 AM and the University of Texas at Tyler at 3:00 PM.
