Emporia, Kan. – Southwest Baptist fell short in both matchups today against Minnesota State-Mankato and Washburn. Mankato bested the Bearcats 7-2 and the Ichabods came out over the Bearcats 5-0.
Game One
Reilly Rupert started the game on the mound by blanked the Mavericks in the first and then mowing them down in order in the second.
Morgan McMullin got the Bearcats on the board first with a home run in the second to center field. Mankato would use a 5 run fourth inning to break open a lead and SBU would get one back in the seventh when
Meadow Vassar pinch hit to drive in McMullin for the second run. McMullin led the Bearcats with 1 hit on 3 plate appearances including scoring both runs.
Kaylee Davis came on in relief of Rupert to go 2 innings with no hits allowed.
Game Two
Southwest Baptist would get their first hit in the fifth inning with a single through the right side by
Morgan McMullin. Washburn used a 3 run fourth inning to propel themselves to the final score of 5-0.
Emma Wood drew the start for the Bearcats, going 5 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs.
Hallie Henderson came on in relief to pitch the final 2 frames and strike out 2 batters.
The Bearcats will be facing Wayne State and Emporia State March 6 for the second day of the 5-State Classic.
