Wichita Falls, Tex. – On the first day of the Wichita Falls tournament hosted by Midwestern State, the Men's Tennis team went 1-1, defeating the Cameron Aggies 4-3 and falling to #25 Southern Arkansas 4-2. The team drops to 3-4 on the young season.
Match One
Cameron won the doubles match on court 1 in a close 6-4 finish.
David Szeri and
Alvaro Nunez then evened the doubles field with a 6-2 win on court 3. Coming up with a big win on court 2 was
Youssef Nabil and
Adham Gaber, sealing the doubles point with a 6-4 finish.
After SBU went up 1-0 following doubles play, the Aggies evened the score after a win on court 2.
David Szeri gave the Bearcats the lead once again with a 7-5 6-2 victory on court 4, but Cameron evened things up at 2-2 after a victory on court 5. It came down to the wire as
Adham Gaber won on court 1 and the Aggies player won on court 3, leaving it up to court 6. After falling behind 6-1 in the first set,
Youssef Nabil rallied and defeated his opponent 6-3 and 6-2 in the final two sets to hand SBU the 4-3 victory.
Match Two
Against the #25 ranked Muleriders, SBU dominated doubles play.
Carlos Corser and
Max Sanoja got the party started with a 6-2 victory on court 1, following by another 6-2 finish on court 3 by
David Szeri and
Alvaro Nunez, and a 7-6 win on court 3 from
Youssef Nabil and
Adham Gaber.
SAU got their first point of the match on court 2 to begin singles play. Responding was
Adham Gaber, defeating his opponent 6-4 6-2 on court 1. The Muleriders bounced back, winning on courts 4, 3, and 5 to take the match 4-2.
The team continues play in the Midwestern Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, March 6 with matches against Oklahoma Baptist at 9 AM and the University of Texas at Tyler at 3:00 PM.
