St. Charles, Mo. – The Bearcats were playing against a familiar foe Sunday afternoon in the Lindenwood Lions. Both teams competed against each other in the MIAA and made the transition to the GLVC the same year. Due to the shortened season last year, the teams met as part of the GLVC for the first time on Sunday. Lindenwood won the first 10-2 and the second 7-0, making SBU's record 2-20 (1-9 GLVC) this season.
Game One
Lindenwood was first on the scoreboard, jumping to a 5-0 lead after two innings. With one out in the 4
th,
Alyssa Reed,
Kaitlyn Bagby, and
Renae Gillmore reached on back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. A fielder's choice made two outs, but
Morgan McMullin came up clutch with an RBI single to left, cutting the deficit to 5-1. However, the Lions were able to get that run back in their half of the 4
th. A two-out rally helped SBU to their second run of the game in the 6
th, as
Renae Gillmore singled through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Alissa Collette then drove her home on a single up the middle, making the score 6-2. Lindenwood got hot in their half of the 6
th, scoring 4 more to end the game early via the run rule, 10-2.
Kaitlyn Bagby,
Renae Gillmore, and
Morgan McMullin all finished the game 2-3 at the plate.
Game Two
The Bearcats got runners on first and third in the opening inning thanks to a
Nicole Horstman walk and a
Kaitlyn Bagby single, but nothing would come of the threat. Lindenwood had strong 1
st and 2
nd innings offensively, scoring 5 runs.
Rylee Lunn opened the 3
rd with a bunt single, stealing second shortly after.
Renae Gillmore followed with a single that advanced Lunn to third, and later stole second herself. However, a pair of strikeouts and a groundout ended the inning without a run scoring. The Lions scored another pair of runs in the 5
th, creating a 7-0 final score in favor of Lindenwood.
Izzy Harrison was the lone Bearcat with multiple hits in the game, but five others got in the hit column to total 7 in the game.
SBU will travel to Pittsburg, KS on Wednesday, March 31 for a non-conference doubleheader against the former MIAA rivals. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
