Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU softball team was back on the road Saturday afternoon, taking on the Maryville Saints in St. Louis. Final scores of 11-0 and 9-1 gave the Saints the doubleheader sweep, dropping the Bearcats to 2-18 on the year.
Game One
The Saints had hot bats right from the start, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Out of the 8 hits in the first inning, none were greater than a single. One more run was scored by the Saints in the third, making the score 11-0. With two outs in the 5
th,
Abby Henson broke up the perfect game with a single to left field. A fielder's choice ended the inning and the game, as the run rule was put into effect.
Game Two
Rylee Lunn started the game with a single, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. She was stranded there after Maryville struck out the next two batters. The Saints had a similar start to their half of the first, but
Madison Coone gunned down the runner trying to steal second. In the second,
Kaitlyn Bagby and
Morgan McMullin picked up a couple of singles and
Izzy Harrison drew a walk, loading the bases. But solid pitching kept the Bearcats off the board. Maryville scored a run in the second, but SBU answered in the third.
Katlynn McConville singled and advanced to second on the throw, coming in to score on a single by
Kaitlyn Bagby. The home squad scored 5 more in the third, 1 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth to end the game with a 9-1 final.
SBU continues to play in the St. Louis area, taking on the Lindenwood Lions on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
