Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist hosted the Hawks of Rockhurst for a double header on a windy Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats dropped the first game 9-2 and the second 8-5 which pushes their record to 7-6 (4-5 GLVC) for the season.
Game One
The Bearcats went down a run in the second inning but got that run back when
Blake Ford singled to bring in
Rhys Cratty who led the inning off with a single also. SBU got one more run in the 5
th inning but couldn't mount the comeback, and fell 9-2.
Cole Van Every had the start for the Bearcats, only allowing 1 earned run through 4.2 innings and only walking 2.
Matt Eleiott and
Gavin Greenwood would combine to finish the final 2.1 innings with just 1 run allowed.
Blake Lutgen led the Bearcats at the plate with 2 hits and 1 RBI in three plate appearances.
Game Two
The Hawks struck early with 6 runs in the first inning and two more in the third inning.
Matt Scott came on in relief in the third inning and pitched 3.1 innings and striking out 5 while allowing no runs. The Bearcats got the bases loaded with no outs in the 6
th inning when
Kyler Charchun drew a walk to plate the first run of the game.
Zack Ehlen followed that up with a single that scored another.
Rhys Cratty brought the rest around to score on a two out triple to deep center.
Josh Scott and Same Avile each had two hits and one run along with
Rhys Cratty having the triple and leading the Bearcats with 2 RBI's.
Southwest Baptist will wrap up the series against Rockhurst on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
