Bolivar, Mo. – For the first time in nearly two years, the men's tennis team played in Bolivar at the
John Bryant Tennis Center on the campus of Southwest Baptist University. The last match played at home by the SBU men's tennis team was on May 11, 2019 when they defeated Harding 4-0 in the Central Region Championships. Friday's matchup featured the Harding Bison as well, resulting in a similar outcome; a 6-1 dominating victory by the Bearcats. The win helps SBU to an 8-8 record on the year.
David Szeri and
Alvaro Nunez got things cooking with a solid 6-3 win on court 3 of doubles play.
Adham Gaber and
Youssef Nabil followed with another 6-3 finish on court 2, claiming the doubles point. After the doubles point had been won,
Max Sanoja and
Carlos Corser defeated their opponents in a tiebreak, 7-6 to sweep doubles play.
The first set of singles play was a dominating 6-0 victory by
Adham Gaber, who then won his match when his opponent retired. Harding then got on the board with a win on court 2, but
Youssef Nabil put SBU ahead by two points once again thanks to his 6-4, 7-5 victory on court 5. In an exciting match on court 4,
David Szeri helped seal the win for SBU with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Alvaro Nunez had a couple close sets on court 3, defeating his opponent 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. Claiming SBU's 6
th point of the day was
Max Sanoja on court 6. After dropping the first set 4-6, Sanoja won the second set 6-4 and battled from behind to win the third set 7-5.
The men's team will be back in action on Saturday, April 3 at 10:30 AM against the Drury Panthers in Springfield, MO.
