Bats Come Alive in 9-1 Run Rule Over Missouri S&T

Bolivar, Mo. – The bats came alive in game two of SBU's doubleheader with Missouri S&T, as the Bearcats defeated the Miners in 5 innings Saturday afternoon. Missouri S&T won the first of the doubleheader, putting SBU at 2-14 (1-5 GLVC). That win marks the team's first conference win as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Game One
The first Miner batter launched a homerun for the first run of the game and an early 1-0 lead. Alissa Collette singled up the middle to lead off the bottom of the 2nd, followed by Kaitlyn Bagby who singled down the left field line. Both were advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt, but were stranded there. Missouri S&T scored two more in the 4th,  5th, and 7th to make a 7-0 final score.

Game Two
SBU's portion of the 1st inning began with four consecutive hits, leading to an early 2-0 lead. Alyssa Reed drove in the first and Morgan McMullin drove in the second. Renae Gillmore brought Izzy Harrison home in the 2nd on a sacrifice fly, followed by another big hit from Alyssa Reed that scored two more. The third inning was more of the same, as Reilly Rupert singled to bring home Emma Ezzell. Katlynn McConville was the next up, doubling home Rupert for the inning's second run. Nicole Horstman later found some outfield grass as well, driving in a run and another scoring on a poor throw by the defense. After three, SBU led 9-1. The held on in the 4th and 5th to seal the victory by the run rule.

Katlynn McConville and Renae Gillmore were perfect at the plate in game two, McConville 3-3 with 3 runs scored and Gillmore 2-2 with 2 runs scored and a sacrifice fly. Alyssa Reed led the team with 3 RBI on her 2-3 performance.
