Lebanon, Ill. – Southwest Baptist bounced back after a 4-1 loss in the first game of the doubleheader to secure an 18-11 win in the second game. This makes the Bearcats record 6-3 (3-2 GLVC) for the season.
Game One
Cole Van Every started the game for the Bearcats and started off very strong with only one run allowed through the first 6 innings. McKendree got hot for 3 runs in the seventh to extend the lead to 4-0 at the time.
Zack Ehlen reached base to begin the 8
th inning and was later brought around by a single from
Sam Avila to cut the lead to 3 in McKendree's favor.
Zack Ehlen and
Sam Avila each had two hits to lead the Bearcats at the plate. Van Every finished with 7 full innings pitched and 5 hits allowed while striking out 8 batters.
Game Two
Southwest Baptist got the bats started early with a run in the first, 3 in the second, and 9 in the third.
Colby Sneed led the charge in the third inning with a triple to drive in two and
Rhys Cratty brought him in to wrap up the inning with a home run. SBU would plate 5 more runs in the remaining 6 innings to finish with an astounding 18 runs in the game.
Blake Lutgen and
Rhys Cratty finished with 3 hits and 4 RBI's apiece to pace the Bearcats offense. 4 other players finished with 2 hits for the Bearcats. Southwest Baptist also drew 10 walks as a team.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action tomorrow March 21 to round out the series with McKendree.
