Kansas City, Mo. – Thursday was a historic day for the SBU Softball team, playing their first conference games as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Playing as the host was Rockhurst University, taking place in Kansas City, MO. The Hawks defeated the Bearcats in both games, dropping the Bearcats to 1-11 (0-2 GLVC).
 
Game One
Rockhurst scored two in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the sixth to create a 7-0 final score. Renae Gillmore drove a single to left in the first, but was stranded there. With one out in the fourth Emma Ezzell hit a single to center and moved to second on a walk by Bailey Elmore, but neither would advance past that. The Bearcats got a couple into scoring position in the fifth, but nothing would come of it.
 
Game Two
The Bearcats surrendered a run in the second and two in the third, giving Rockhurst a 3-0 win. Bats were quiet in the second game, as Nicole Horstman was the lone Bearcat with a hit. Madison Coone was the other SBU baserunner in the game, drawing a walk in the third inning. Emma Wood pitched all 6.0 innings, giving up just 6 hits and 2 earned runs.
 
SBU will continue their road stint, traveling to Pitt State on Wednesday, March 17 for a doubleheader against the Gorillas. Game one is scheduled for a 2 PM start.
