Oklahoma City, Okla. – An exciting weekend at the ITA Indoor National Tournament concluded Sunday afternoon, as the SBU Women's Tennis team fell to the #4 nationally ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds in the tournament championship. In the tournament, the 7-seeded Bearcats upset the #2 seed in the first round and the #6 seed in the second round to advance to the championship.
The two teams met in St. Louis just a week before, where the Greyhounds defeated the Bearcats 6-1. On Sunday, UINDY jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after dominating doubles play, winning on courts 2 and 3. The momentum rolled into singles play, as the Greyhounds took a quick 3-0 lead with victories on courts 2 and 4. Although the first set on court 6 was tight at 4-6, the UINDY player went on to seal the victory for the Greyhounds, winning 4-0.
SBU will face Angelo State in a rematch on Friday, March 5 at 9 AM, hosted in Wichita Falls, TX. In that invitational, the Bearcats will also face Southern Arkansas, Oklahoma Baptist, and the University of Texas at Tyler.
