Oklahoma City, Okla. – Continuing their historic run in the ITA Indoor Nationals, the SBU Women's Tennis team pulled another upset Saturday. In the semi-finals round, the #7 seed Bearcats beat the #6 seed and #13 ranked Angelo Sate 4-3 to advance to the finals.
Diana Cabrera and
Lola Cincunegui got things rolling for SBU, winning 6-2 on court 3 of doubles play. The Rams evened things up with a 7-5 victory on court 1, but
Catarina Zheng and
Elsa Pascual claimed the huge doubles point thanks to their 6-4 win on court 2.
SBU's second point came on court 5 with a 6-4, 6-0 two set sweep thanks to
Constanca Crespo. Angelo State then evened the score at 2-2 with wins on court 6 and 3.
Catarina Zheng helped SBU regain a 3-2 lead following her 6-2, 7-5 performance on court 4. Everything came down to court 2, as ASU was able to win on court 1 and tie things up at 3-3.
Diana Cabrera helped seal the upset and keep the Bearcats rolling with her 7-6, 6-2 victory.
SBU will play in the ITA Indoor National Finals on Sunday, February 28 at 2:30 PM, taking on the winner between Central Oklahoma and Indianapolis.
