Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Men's Basketball team continued where the left off prior to the break, defeating Tabor College 92-47 Thursday evening. That win marks the team's 7
th straight victory and puts them at 9-1 (3-0 GLVC) to start the year, the program's best start since 2008-09.
Jalil Beaubrun put the first points on the board, but
RJ Crawford quickly scored 9 straight by himself to kick the Bearcats off to an 11-2 lead. After another pair of points by Tabor, SBU went on a 16-0 run to go ahead 26-4. Around the halfway point in the first half,
Jalil Beaubrun completed back-to-back three-point plays. The first was a layup followed by a free throw, and the second was a drained field goal from beyond the arc. The Blue Jays chipped away at the SBU lead, but a strong finish to the half saw the Bearcats take a 52-17 lead into the break.
Joe Miller continued the scoring in the second half, followed quickly by a
Nico Aguirre three pointer. With 12:09 on the clock,
Rico Clouden pushed SBU's lead to 41 with a layup from
Drew McMillin. A few minutes later,
Ayden Stone pushed that lead to 50, giving SBU an 80-30 lead.
Drew McMillin then hit a pair of three's, and
Branden Eckles connected with
Tyler Williams who slammed it down. Tabor finished with a couple of free throws, creating a 92-47 finish.
Jalil Beaubrun led all scorers with 17 points in 17 minutes. He went 7-11 from the field and had 6 rebounds and 3 assists as well.
Drew McMillin also had a career night, scoring 15 points on 60% shooting from the field, along with 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
RJ Crawford and
Juan Morales each had 11 points, and
Ayden Stone hit the double digit mark with a game-high 20 rebounds. As a team, the Bearcats shot 55.6% from the field and out-rebounded the Blue Jays 42-19.
Thursday's competition concludes the non-conference schedule, setting the team up for GLVC play for the remainder of the season. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, January 4 as they play host to the Drury Panthers at home. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
