Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Women's Basketball team played against the Haskell Indians Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Bearcats beat the Indians by a final score of 88-43. This pushes the Bearcats record to 2-2 for the season.
The Bearcats scored the first 7 points of the game and took an early 10-2 lead. Trying to pull the game closer, the Indians had a solid stretch, but Mary Rose Foster made a jumper for two to keep the lead. SBU had a nine-point lead going into the second quarter. Early in the seond quarter, Emma Perry made a three-pointer to increase the lead to double digits. Right before halftime, Brylee Graddy made a three-pointer to give SBU a 36-17 lead at the break. In the third quarter, the Bearcats started to pull away. Nyah Pettus made a driving layup to make the score 40-19. Faith Gilkey had a really strong third quarter, making 3 three pointers and scoring 14 points. The Bearcats maintained a 66-29 lead heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter featured more of the same, SBU dominating their way to an 88-43 final score.
Faith Gilkey had an outstanding game, leading all scorers with 17 points on 6-8 from the field and 4-4 from three. She also had 7 assists, 2 steals, and a block. Kyeigh Vaught had 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Brylee Graddy finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Also in double digits was Emma Perry with 10 points. As a team, Southwest Baptist out-rebounded their opponents 48-16 and 18 and shot 49.0% from the field.
The Bearcats will stay home to play against another MIAA opponent in Rogers State on Tuesday, November 23 at 5:30 PM.
