Bolivar, Mo-  The SBU Women's Basketball Team took on the Rogers St. Hillcats Tuesday evening. The Hillcats got the victory over the Bercats with a final score of 71-63. Following the loss, the Bearcats move to 2-3 on the season.
The Hillcats opened up the scoring with a jumper, a minute and half into the game but was quickly answered by a
Nyah Pettus layup to tie it up. Scoring would go back in forth throughout the first quarter. The Bearcats hit 3 three pointers in the first quarter but trailed after ten, 13-14.
Shortly after the second quarter started
Emma Perry hit her second three of the game after a Hillcat three to make it a one-point game again. The Bearcats retook the lead when
Mary Rose Foster hit a jumper to go up 18-17. Perry would hit another 3 in the final seconds of the half to go into the locker room down 26-29.
The Bearcats jumped to a quick 7-2 run in the opening minutes of the second half to take a 33-31 lead. Both teams would battle back and forth trading leads until the 5:27 mark where they would be tied at 36. The Hillcats would go on a run to maintain the lead throughout the quarter. Perry would end the quarter with a pair of free throws to make it 43-47.
Kyleigh Vaught would open up the scoring in the final quarter to make it a 2-point game. The Hillcats would then go on a 11-0 run and would maintain the lead throughout the game. Vaught would score 9 more points in the quarter to end the game with 17 points. When the final buzzer sounded the Bearcats had 63 to the Hillcats 71.
As a team, SBU went 23-59 from the field shooting 39% and 7-20 from beyond the 3-point line for 35%. The Bearcats out rebounded the Hillcats 35-29. Vaught led the way with 17 points and 5 assists. Perry was just behind her with 14 points hitting four 3 pointers.
Kelsey Blakemore tagged along 9 and
Nyah Pettus had 6.
Micah Clayton,
Isabel Rohlfing, and
Mary Rose Foster all had 4 points.
Faith Gilkey and
Kallyn Stumbo each scored a bucket with 2 and 3 points respectively.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Monday November 29
th here in the Meyer Wellness Center. They will begin conference play against the William Jewell Cardinals. Tip off is set for 5:30 PM.
