Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Women's Basketball team took on the Missouri Western State Griffons Thursday evening. The Griffons got the victory over the Bearcats with a final score of 70-45. Following the loss, the Bearcats move to 1-2 for the year.
Mary Rose Foster struck first for the Bearcats, putting the first points on the board. The Griffons quickly responding, jumping ahead by a score of 15-8. With two minutes left of the first quarter, Micah Clayton made a jumper for two and cut the deficit to five points. In the second quarter, Emma Perry made a three-pointer to open the second quarter and bring the Bearcats within two. Missouri Western then went on a run to start their strong second quarter. They took a 37-20 lead at the half. Ending the third quarter, Mary Rose Foster scored the last 7 points for SBU, nailing a three and hitting four free throws to make the score 55-30 heading into the final frame. As time expired, Brylee Graddy made the three-pointer to make the final score 70-45 in favor of the Griffons.
Mary Rose Foster was the leading scorer with 11 points. She also had 8 rebounds, her career high. Kelsey Blakemore and Brylee Graddy had 7 points each. With 6 points and 5 rebounds was Nyah Pettus. As a team, SBU had 30 rebounds and 18 assists.
The Bearcats will remain at home, taking on another non-conference opponent in Haskell University on November 20 at 1 PM.
