Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Football team was back at home after a long road trip last weekend. Saturday's matchup featured the Greyhounds of Indianapolis who went on to win the GLVC opener 77-10. This loss drops the Bearcats to 1-4 (0-1 GLVC).
UINDY wasted no time, scoring on the opening kickoff. They scored again after a three-and-out by SBU, taking a 14-0 lead early in the game. After that second score, the game was delayed due to lightning in the area. Play resumed after about an hour delay, and the Greyhounds picked up where they left off. They took a 35-0 lead late in the first when SBU got the ball back. Starting on their own 31-yard line,
Cooper Callis found
Jordan Kent for 41 yards to the UINDY 28. The drive stalled after that, resulting in a
Logan Turner 51-yard field goal. That field goal is the second longest in SBU history, just a yard behind the program record. The second quarter featured more of the same, and the visitors took a 56-3 lead into the half.
Coming out of the break,
Cooper Callis connected with
Preston Carson on an out route, where he took it 53 yards for the touchdown. The Greyhounds responded with a couple more scores, extending their lead to 70-10. UINDY would go on to score once more to make the final score 77-10.
Cooper Callis was 16-27 for 181 yards and a touchdown.
Jordan Kent was his primary target, catching 8 passes for 111 yards. The defense was led by two-time GLVC Defensive Player of the Week,
Coleton Smith, finishing with a game-high 10 tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Bryton Lewi had 2 pass break-ups in the loss as well.
The team will hit the road for their next competition, taking on the William Jewell Cardinals at Liberty, MO on Saturday, October 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 PM.
