Hammond, Ind. – Day two of the Midwest Crossover Tournament featured the SBU Volleyball team in two matches. The first match came against Ursuline College, where the Arrows took the very close match in 5 sets. The second match was a clean sweep by SBU, defeating Lake Erie College. With the split, SBU's record sits at 10-11 (5-5 GLVC).
Match One
Ursuline came out attacking, taking an early lead and not looking back, taking set one by a score of 25-19. SBU battled back and won the second set 25-21, but fell 25-13 in the third. Again the Bearcats responded with a set four victory, 25-20. The decisive 5
th set needed extra points, as the teams went back and forth. Eventually, the Arrows took set five 18-16 and the match 3-2. Leading the match in kills was
Ashley Lasher, finishing with 16.
Azalea Clendenning had 11 kills and
Rachel Francis had 10.
Loran Pritchett had the match high 44 assists, also contributing with 9 kills and 5 blocks.
Aleena Peterson was on dig duty once again, totaling 21 in the match.
Match Two
Southwest Baptist began the second match of the day in dominating fashion, winning the first set 25-12. The Storm put up more of a fight in the second set, but SBU took it 25-18. Again Lake Erie made a push in the third set, but the Bearcats won it 25-21 and the match 3-0.
Loran Pritchett and
Julia Becker shared the assists column, totaling 12 and 11 assists in the match. The kills category was shared by
Ashley Lasher and
Rachel Francis, finishing with 8 kills each.
The team returns home for their next competition, hosting Quincy and UMSL on Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23. Friday's match is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Meyer Sports Center.
