Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Men's Soccer team was back in town Friday evening, hosting the Lindenwood Lions in a late night matchup. Lindenwood scored first and maintained a lead the rest of the game, taking it 3-1. The loss drops the Bearcats to 0-7 (0-5 GLVC) on the year.
Early into the game, the Lions found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions kept attacking with shots on goal, but
Will vanHoornbeek was there for the saves. About 5 minutes into the second half,
David Sanchez launched a shot but it went over the goal. A couple minutes later, Lindenwood extended their lead to 2-0. SBU responded with a penalty kick goal by
Jose Mencos that got them on the board. The Lions bounced back and scored another to take a 3-1 lead, which would end up being the final. In goal,
Will vanHoornbeek recorded 9 saves on the night.
The team remains at home for their next competition, taking on the Saints of Maryville University on Sunday, October 3 at 2:30 PM. That game will be played at Plaster Stadium.
