Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats got the bats going early in the final game of the series but fell quite late, dropping the third game to Augustana 12-8. This pushes the Bearcats record to 6-9 on the season and will be starting conference play next week.
Southwest Baptist got things started in the bottom of the second when
Colby Sneed was hit by a pitch and then brought in by a
Blake Hobbs double.
Jackson Soule would single next and Hobbs would come in to score on a throwing error by the third baseman. Soule would then steal third and score when the catchers throw down would sail on him to make it 3-0 Bearcats.
Kyle Smith coasted through the first three innings, just allowing 3 hits, but would get knocked out of the game in the fourth. The Vikings would score 7 in the fourth and lead 8-3 through four innings. Augustana notched one more in the top of the 6
th but SBU got it back in the bottom half to make it 9-4. SBU would then find themselves down 12-5 entering the last frame though and would get a small rally going, scoring 3 runs, but would fall 12-8 in the end.
Langdon Gordon and
Jackson Soule led the attack at the plate, each going 2 for 4 with 2 runs. Soule would also drive in one run along with
Blake Hobbs driving in two.
Ryan Carmack would come on in relief to pitch one and two thirds innings, only allowing one run on two hits.
Drew Wagner would close out the game though with 3 innings pitched with just 4 hits allowed and 4 strikeouts.
