Edmond, Okla. – The SBU Softball team wrapped up their first tournament of the season Sunday afternoon, falling to Oklahoma Christian in the 7
th inning. The team heads home with an 0-5 record.
Although the Eagles picked up a hit in their first at-bat,
Aubry Hernandez made sure nothing came of it. She caught the OCU runner attempting to steal second, with a completion to
Nicole Horstman for the out. The first major action of the game came in the 3
rd inning, as
Reilly Rupert drilled the team's first homerun of the season to left field. SBU managed to get a baserunner to third base in the 4
th inning, but couldn't make it home. In the bottom of the 5
th, the Eagles made a threat by getting a runner to third with just one out. Two strikeouts by
Alexis Dock kept SBU in the lead, 1-0. Oklahoma Christian finally got on the board in the 6
th on an RBI single down the right field line. The Eagles continued that momentum, leading off the bottom of the 7
th with a double. After a lineout, the OCU runner stole third and made it home on a throwing error by the catcher to seal the 2-1 walk-off victory.
Alexis Dock pitched the entire game for the Bearcats, giving up 6 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 4.
The Bearcats compete in the Bentonville Tournament next, playing four teams (three being former MIAA opponents). Two of those games will be played on Friday, February 14 and the other two set for Saturday, February 15.
