Bentonville, Ark. – In their second tournament of the season, the Bearcats went 0-2 in the opening day. SBU fell to former rival Missouri Western 2-3, and Wayne State 1-4. The Bearcats now sit at 0-7 (0-0 GLVC).
Game One
The Bearcats got on the board early, rallying with two outs in the first inning.
Sam Moran got things going with a two-out single. She came around to score on a throwing error after
Aubry Hernandez hit a single to right field and the 3
rd baseman later threw it away. SBU ended up loading the bases in the inning, but just got the one run. The first Griffon batter was hit by a pitch, but
Aubry Hernandez connected with
Megan Schellert to catch her trying to steal.
The second Bearcat run was scored in the second inning, as
Reilly Rupert led off with a walk. Thanks to good baserunning, she got into scoring position on a passed ball, and later scored on
Megan Schellert's single to right. MWSU was threatening in their half of the 2
nd, but
Alexis Dock struck out the last two batters to keep the score 2-0 in favor of SBU. It was in the bottom of the 5
th where the Griffons tied the game at 2-2. They kept their momentum going with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7
th, 3-2 Griffons.
Alexis Dock pitched 6.0 solid innings, striking out 8 and giving up just 2 runs.
Emma Wood was credited with the loss.
Megan Schellert picked up 2 hits and had the team's only RBI.
Janessa Rivera picked up the team's first triple of the season, going 1-1 with a hit-by-pitch and a sac bunt.
Game Two
The Wildcats struck early with a run in the first inning. In the top of the 2
nd,
Janessa Rivera and
Morgan McMullin hit back-to-back singles, but nothing would come of the threat. Wayne State continued their offense in the 3
rd, scoring two more runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Bearcats responded in the 4
th, as
Nya Morgan hit a homerun to center, her first at SBU. The Wildcats scored their fourth and final run in the fifth inning, ending with a 1-4 final score.
Nya Morgan picked up two hits in the loss, including her first homerun and SBU's lone RBI.
Reilly Rupert pitched the whole game for SBU, giving up just 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts.
The Bearcats continue play at the Bentonville tournament on Sunday, playing against former MIAA opponents in Central Missouri at 12 PM and Emporia State at 4 PM.
