Edmond, Okla. – The SBU Softball team opened their 2020 season with two losses at a neutral venue. They opened the day with a morning matchup against #15 ranked Cameron, falling 0-10 in 5 innings. Shortly after, Southeastern Oklahoma defeated the Bearcats 7-1, giving SBU an 0-2 start to the season.

Game One
Nationally ranked Cameron University jumped out to an early lead, scoring 4 in the first inning off a double and a homerun. SBU applied some pressure in the 1st as well, loading the bases on three consecutive walks, but a pop out and a ground out ended the inning. The Aggies scored 1 run in the 3rd and another in the 4th before breaking the game open with another 4 runs in the 5th. The Bearcats were unable to mount the comeback, ending 0-10 after 5 innings.

Game Two
Aubry Hernandez was SBU's first baserunner against Southeastern Oklahoma, reaching on a single to right in the 2nd inning. Nicole Horstman led off the 3rd inning with a base hit, but a strikeout and two fly outs ended the threat. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Savage Storm had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, but an out at the plate made the second out and a fly out ended the inning with no damage done. Similar to the 3rd, SBU led off the 4th with a hit, a double by Sam Moran. Janessa Rivera later reached on a hit by pitch, but the score remained 0-0.

With two outs in the 5th inning, Renae Gillmore was hit by a pitch, brining Megan Schellert to the plate. Schellert delivered with a huge RBI double to give SBU a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th. Southeastern answered back, scoring 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th to make the final score 7-1 in favor of Southeastern.
