Bearcats Pull off Dramatic Overtime Win

Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist stayed hot and pulled off the overtime comeback for their third straight win. The Bearcats outscored the Prairie Stars 11-9 in overtime to come from behind and win 85-83. This pushes the Bearcats record 12-9 (6-7 GLVC) on the season.

The Bearcats got started with a layup in the first possession, followed by a block and another made jumper for a quick 4-0 lead. The Bearcats and Prairie Stars put on an offensive show with the Bearcats shooting 75% from the field and UIS shooting 66% from the field. SBU found themselves down 1 with 2 seconds remaining in the first and a beyond half court heave from Brylee Graddy banked in as time expired for the Bearcats to take a 2-point lead into the second quarter. The second quarter was the opposite of the first with the Bearcats shooting 23% and UIS 30% for the quarter. Both teams were able to have the lead in the second, but neither could capitalize and the Prairie Stars would go into halftime with a 1-point advantage.

Illinois Springfield controlled the third quarter extending the lead to 6 before SBU could hit a basket. A three-pointer by Kyleigh Vaught would cut that lead in half though. Another run would extend the lead to 7 for the Prairie Stars with 1:18 left on the clock. Kyleigh Vaught would go on a 5-0 run by herself to cut the deficit to 2 going into the last quarter. Southwest Baptist would stay down throughout the 4th quarter until tying it at the 1:38 mark. Two free throws by Regan Tibbits would give the Bearcats the lead with 1:05 remaining in regulation. A late layup by UIS would tie the game at 74 and send it to overtime. Illinois Springfield would get a quick 6-point lead but some key stops by the Bearcats and made free throws would give them the two-point lead and the eventual win.

The Bearcats put on a scoring display with 25 from Kyleigh Vaught and 20 from Regan Tibbits. SBU also had contributions from Sydney Bandy(17) and Bailey Rezabek with 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
