Springfield, Mo. – SBU Softball continued their hot streak Saturday, defeating Lincoln in their first game 7-3 and Northeastern in their second game 5-3. The Bearcats improve to 5-11 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.
Game One
The Bearcats played as the home team in this matchup against Lincoln. The first four Bearcats drew walks, bringing home a run to take a 1-0 early lead. SBU broke the game open in the third inning, starting with back-to-back singles from
Megan Schellert and
Morgan McMullin.
Aubry Hernandez loaded the bases with a walk. A sacrifice fly brought home Schellert to make the score 2-0. A couple more walks and a hit-by-pitch scored two more runs, followed by another sacrifice fly to make the score 5-0. The Blue Tigers made a bit of a rally in the 6
th inning, scoring 3 runs.
Aubry Hernandez responded and extended the SBU lead with a 2-run homerun in their half of the 6
th, ending the game 7-3.
Aubry Hernandez finished the game 1-2 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 2 walks.
Megan Schellert and
Morgan McMullin each had 2 hits as well.
Maddie Massanelli pitched the full game, giving up 0 earned runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts.
Game Two
Playing as the home team again, the Bearcats jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A walk by
Sam Moran, a single by
Megan Schellert, and back-to-back fielder's choices scored the first run of the game. With two outs in the 2
nd inning,
Paige St. Pierre came around to score on an error by the catcher. After a walk,
Aubry Hernandez drove in two more runs to make the score 4-0 SBU. The game flew by until the 5
th inning where NSU put 1 run on the board. They scored again in the 6
th, but the Bearcats responded.
Megan Schellert drove in
Taryn Elia on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2. The Riverhawks scored once more, but SBU closed out the game 5-3.
Sam Moran was perfect at the plate, going 3-3 with a walk.
Megan Schellert also had 2 hits in the victory.
Aubry Hernandez picked up another 3 RBIs, ending the day with 6 RBIs. The win was credited to
Reilly Rupert, pitching all 7.0 innings with 3 strikeouts.
The Drury Invitational will wrap up tomorrow afternoon, as SBU takes on Northwest Missouri State at 1 PM.
