Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats wrapped up their regular season with a big win over William Jewell 71-66 on senior day. SBU finishes 20-8 (13-7 GLVC) on the year. The team's 20 wins are the most since 2009-10 when the team went 20-11 (11-9 MIAA). The team's 13 conference wins are the 4
th most conference wins in a season in SBU Men's Basketball history.
The Bearcats found themselves behind 2-11, and 4-14 early in the first half. Halfway through the first half,
Quinn Nelson hit two three's on back-to-back possessions to bring the score to 14-17. A few minutes later,
Mitch Ganote nailed a three and
Damian Prgomet threw down a dunk from Ganote to tie the game at 20-20. With 3 minutes left in the half,
Quinn Nelson hit another three to give SBU a 26-25 lead.
Godfrey Rolle made another one from beyond the arc with 22 seconds left, giving the Bearcats a 32-39 lead at the break.
SBU began the second half in the same way the ended the first half, with a three pointer by
Godfrey Rolle. The Cardinals got back within one, when
Damian Prgomet slammed another dunk down. William Jewell ended up tying the game with 15 minutes left, but scores by
Brady Smith,
Godfrey Rolle, and
Kent Thomas put SBU ahead 41-48. With just over 10 to go, WJC got within 4, when
Joe Miller hit a three. Again, the visitors cut the deficit to 1 with three minutes left, then Miller made a layup followed by two
Godfrey Rolle free throws.
Brady Smith sealed the deal with two more free throws, ending 71-66 in favor of SBU.
SBU out-rebounded WJC 42-35 and held the Cardinals to 19-59 shooting.
Joe Miller shot 6-9 from the field for 15 points with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Brady Smith and
Godfrey Rolle each finished with 14, and
Quinn Nelson had 13.
Damian Prgomet led the team in rebounds, grabbing 9 on the afternoon.
