Alva, Okla. - The SBU Softball team was in Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon, competing against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers defeated the Bearcats 12-3 in game one, and SBU led 5-0 in the third inning of game two before it was cancelled due to weather. The team drops to 1-11 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.
Game One
SBU made some noise in the first inning, getting runners in scoring position with less than two outs, but a double play ended the threat with no runs scored. NWOSU jumped to an early 2-0 after their half of the first. The Bearcats had a few more reach base in the second, but nothing would come of that either. Three more runs were scored by the Rangers in the 3rd, with another two in the 4th to take a 7-0 lead.Â
With two outs in the 5th,
Janessa Rivera hit a two-out double to put runners on second and third.
Nya Morgan followed with a double of her own, driving in
Sam Moran and
Janessa Rivera.
Taryn Elia took over at second as a pinch runner, scoring on an
Aubry Hernandez double to make the score 3-7. NWOSU scored 2 more runs in the 5th and 3 in the 6th to end the game via run rule, 12-3.Â
Janessa Rivera was the only Bearcat that had a multi-hit game, going 2-3 at the plate.
Nya Morgan was 1-2 with 2 RBI and a walk.Â
Game Two
Singles by
Megan Schellert and
Nya Morgan put runners on first and third in the 1st inning, but the Rangers got out of the threat unharmed.
Renae Gillmore led off the 2nd inning with a single through the left side, later advancing to third.
Paige St. Pierre came up clutch with a single that drove in Gillmore to take an early 1-0 lead. An error in the 3rd led to a run, followed by a
Renae Gillmore single that scored two more.
Morgan McMullin continued the momentum with a single of her own, scoring Gillmore to take a 5-0 lead. The game was called in the top of the 3rd due to weather.
The team will head just down the road for their next competition, competing in the Drury Invitational this Friday through Sunday, February 28-March 1.Â
