Springfield, Mo. – The Women's Tennis team opened had their first home match Sunday afternoon, hosting Missouri Western State University at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. The Bearcats dominated the former MIAA opponents, sweeping them 7-0.
In doubles play,
Jill Van den Dungen and
Catarina Zheng led things off with a 6-2 victory on court 1, followed by a victory on court 2 by
Dona Abohabaga and
Constanca Crespo, 6-3. That sealed the doubles point, but the match on court 3 was played out and won by MWSU 6-4.
Dona Abohabaga was the first to finish in singles play, claiming a 6-0 6-2 win on court 2.
Diana Cabrera followed shortly after, defeating her opponent 6-1 6-2 on court 4. The match clinching point came from
Jill Van den Dungen on court 1, winning 6-0 7-5.
Constanca Crespo picked up a 5
th point with her victory on court 3, 6-4 6-4.
Lola Cincunegui and
Catarina Zheng defeated their opponents as well, 6-0 7-6 (8-6) and 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 on courts 6 and 5 respectively.
The Bearcats receive a short break, as their next competition will be on March 6 against Metropolitan State University of Denver.
