Bearcats Sweep Doubleheader to Win Series

Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist came out with the bats hot in the Saturday doubleheader to win 5-2 and 9-5 over Winona State. This helps bring the Bearcats back to .500 at 6-6 on the year.

Game One
The Bearcats were able to get on the board first with 2 in the bottom of the first on 3 hits. Blake Lutgen started it out with a single followed by a double from Sam Avila and then driven in by a Colby Sneed single. Langdon Gordon would come through again in the second inning with a triple to left center, bringing Josh Torrance in to score. That would be enough to win but the Bearcats weren't done scoring two more in the 6th off of an Aaron Head triple to left center. Dalton Morrow would pitch the complete 7 innings, only allowing 5 hits and 2 runs along with 6 strikeouts.

Game Two
Winona State got on the board in the 3rd and 4th innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead but Blake Lutgen would get the bats going with a leadoff home run to right field. SBU would get 3 more in the 5th inning off of a one run double from Langdon Gordon and a two-run single from Sam Avila. The 6th inning would also get started with a hit by pitch followed by 3 hits that would bring in 4 runs to stretch the lead to 8-5 in SBU's favor. Southwest Baptist would get one more in the 8th inning as well to give them a 9-5 win. Drew Wagner drew the start but Ryan Carmack would get the win in relief, pitching 3 scoreless innings.

Langdon Gordon shined at the plate, going 5 for 9 in the two games and driving in 3 runs and scoring twice himself. Sam Avila also found his stride with 4 hits in 8 appearances. The Bearcats had one homerun in the two games and that was a solo shot by Blake Lutgen.
