Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist came out with the bats hot in the Saturday doubleheader to win 5-2 and 9-5 over Winona State. This helps bring the Bearcats back to .500 at 6-6 on the year.
Game One
The Bearcats were able to get on the board first with 2 in the bottom of the first on 3 hits.
Blake Lutgen started it out with a single followed by a double from
Sam Avila and then driven in by a
Colby Sneed single.
Langdon Gordon would come through again in the second inning with a triple to left center, bringing
Josh Torrance in to score. That would be enough to win but the Bearcats weren't done scoring two more in the 6
th off of an
Aaron Head triple to left center.
Dalton Morrow would pitch the complete 7 innings, only allowing 5 hits and 2 runs along with 6 strikeouts.
Game Two
Winona State got on the board in the 3
rd and 4
th innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead but
Blake Lutgen would get the bats going with a leadoff home run to right field. SBU would get 3 more in the 5
th inning off of a one run double from
Langdon Gordon and a two-run single from
Sam Avila. The 6
th inning would also get started with a hit by pitch followed by 3 hits that would bring in 4 runs to stretch the lead to 8-5 in SBU's favor. Southwest Baptist would get one more in the 8
th inning as well to give them a 9-5 win.
Drew Wagner drew the start but
Ryan Carmack would get the win in relief, pitching 3 scoreless innings.
Langdon Gordon shined at the plate, going 5 for 9 in the two games and driving in 3 runs and scoring twice himself.
Sam Avila also found his stride with 4 hits in 8 appearances. The Bearcats had one homerun in the two games and that was a solo shot by
Blake Lutgen.
