Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist put together some solid hitting and pitching in both games of today's doubleheader but were unable to claim the victories. The Bearcats fell in the first game 4-7 and the second game 5-8. This pushes the Bearcats record to 3-5 on the season.
Game One
Dalton Morrow got the start on the hill in the first game and started out strong not allowing a run on 2 hits through 5 innings before he was forced out of the game in the top of the 6
th after recording 2 outs.
Adam White came in in relief for Morrow, going 2 innings and giving up just one run. Wayne State took the 3-0 lead in the top of the 7
th in this 7-inning game but the Bearcats would not go down quiet. The first two batters would go down but back-to-back walks by
Jackson Soule and
Josh Torrance would bring up
Blake Ford, who went deep on the second pitch to tie it up at 3 and force extras. The Wildcats would take the lead once again in the 8
th but
Sam Avila would single to left and bring in
Devin Greaff to tie it back up. Wayne State would eventually get the win in the 9
th with 3 unearned runs.
Game Two
Wayne State got the bats started early with 7 of their 8 runs in the first 3 innings. The Bearcats were able to get one back in the second inning on a
Josh Torrance bomb to left field.
Blake Lutgen got the 3
rd started with a single to left for the Bearcats and later scored on a
McCoy Pearce single to make it 7-2. The Bearcats would have 5 pitchers combine to only allow one run after the 3
rd inning to keep them in it. SBU would get one back in the 5
th inning as well and would get the bases loaded in the 6
th on 3 singles.
Langdon Gordon would drive
Brett Mitchell in with a hit followed by a sacrifice fly to score another by
Sam Avila to make it 8-5.
The Bearcats were led by
Blake Lutgen at the plate with a 3 for 4 day and 2 runs in both games.
Blake Ford and
Josh Torrance also had the two homeruns for the Bearcats on the day followed by
Sam Avila and
McCoy Pearce each with 2 RBI's on the day.
The Bearcats will be back at Dodson Field tomorrow for the final game of the series with Wayne State at 11 AM. There is a slight chance of rain so stay up to date with any news on sbubearcats.com.
