Game Recap: Baseball | | Matt Jowers, Media Relations Assistant

Bearcats Come Up Just Short in First Home Games

Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist put together some solid hitting and pitching in both games of today's doubleheader but were unable to claim the victories. The Bearcats fell in the first game 4-7 and the second game 5-8. This pushes the Bearcats record to 3-5 on the season.

Game One
Dalton Morrow got the start on the hill in the first game and started out strong not allowing a run on 2 hits through 5 innings before he was forced out of the game in the top of the 6th after recording 2 outs. Adam White came in in relief for Morrow, going 2 innings and giving up just one run. Wayne State took the 3-0 lead in the top of the 7th in this 7-inning game but the Bearcats would not go down quiet. The first two batters would go down but back-to-back walks by Jackson Soule and Josh Torrance would bring up Blake Ford, who went deep on the second pitch to tie it up at 3 and force extras. The Wildcats would take the lead once again in the 8th but Sam Avila would single to left and bring in Devin Greaff to tie it back up. Wayne State would eventually get the win in the 9th with 3 unearned runs.

Game Two
Wayne State got the bats started early with 7 of their 8 runs in the first 3 innings. The Bearcats were able to get one back in the second inning on a Josh Torrance bomb to left field. Blake Lutgen got the 3rd started with a single to left for the Bearcats and later scored on a McCoy Pearce single to make it 7-2. The Bearcats would have 5 pitchers combine to only allow one run after the 3rd inning to keep them in it. SBU would get one back in the 5th inning as well and would get the bases loaded in the 6th on 3 singles. Langdon Gordon would drive Brett Mitchell in with a hit followed by a sacrifice fly to score another by Sam Avila to make it 8-5.

The Bearcats were led by Blake Lutgen at the plate with a 3 for 4 day and 2 runs in both games. Blake Ford and Josh Torrance also had the two homeruns for the Bearcats on the day followed by Sam Avila and McCoy Pearce each with 2 RBI's on the day.

The Bearcats will be back at Dodson Field tomorrow for the final game of the series with Wayne State at 11 AM. There is a slight chance of rain so stay up to date with any news on sbubearcats.com.
