St. Louis, Mo. – The SBU women's tennis team began the 2020 season with a 7-0 sweep against Lewis University in St. Louis Saturday evening. This puts the #20 Bearcats at 1-0 to start the year.
The doubles teams had their way with the Flyers, giving up just 4 games out of the three doubles teams.
Jill Van den Dungen and
Catarina Zheng picked up the first victory on court 1 with a 6-1 win.
Dona Abohabaga and
Constanca Crespo followed with a 6-0 straight set sweep on court 2, sealing the doubles point.
Diana Cabrera and
Sarah Brown also picked up a victory on court 3, winning 6-3.
Jill Van den Dungen picked up the first victory in singles play on court 1, dropping just one game, 6-0 6-1. On court 2,
Constanca Crespo defeated her opponent 6-0 6-2 to help SBU to their third point.
Dona Abohabaga sealed the victory for the Bearcats, picking up the fourth point on court 2 with a 6-2 6-4 victory.
Catarina Zheng won on court 5 6-1 6-3,
Diana Cabrera on court 4 6-2 6-1, and
Sarah Brown on court 6 6-4 6-1 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
The Bearcats continue play in St. Louis with a match on Sunday, February 16 at 2:30 PM against Washington University in St. Louis.
