Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist took the lead early and didn't look back to capture a win over the Miners 74-62. This win improves the Bearcats record to 11-9 (5-7 GLVC) on the season.
The Miners drew first blood with a quick three, but
Bailey Rezabek responded with a three of her own. Two more layups by the Bearcats would give them a four-point cushion early. SBU held the Miners to just 38% from the field in the first quarter to take a 6-point lead into the first break.
Regan Tibbits contributed 7 points in the first quarter to help build that lead. The second quarter started the same as the first with a three from Missouri S&T and a three by
Alexus Johnson in response to keep the lead at 6 for SBU. The Miners would cut it down to just one on a 7-2 run, but Southwest Baptist would get back on track with an 8-0 run to push the lead back out to the largest of the half at 9. Southwest Baptist would allow 5 more points before the half and have a 4-point advantage at the break.
The Bearcats would lose some of the 4-point lead early in the third but would extend it to 7 with 5:43 left in the quarter. An 8-2 run in the Miners favor would cut the lead to one. SBU would respond with 7-3 scoring stint to end the quarter and have a 5-point advantage going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter would be all Bearcats and especially
Kyleigh Vaught. Vaught would score 8 of her 21 points in the fourth. The Bearcats were also led by
Regan Tibbits (16),
Bailey Rezabek (15), and
Alexus Johnson (10).
Zahria White dominated the glass, grabbing 14 rebounds for the Bearcats.
