Rolla, Mo. – Southwest Baptist comeback bid came up just short in the end, falling to the Miners 68-79. This pushes the Bearcats record to 0-2 (0-2 GLVC) for the season.
Kyleigh Vaught knocked down a three-pointer to start the game and give the Bearcats an early 3-0 lead. The Miners responded with a layup but
Nyah Pettus answered quickly with a three-pointer of her own. Southwest Baptist continued to battle throughout the first quarter, alternating leads with the Miners. The Bearcats would start the second quarter off hot with back-to-back buckets to take a one-point lead. Going back and forth the entire quarter the Bearcats took the lead with 1:19 left on two
Nyah Pettus free throws but would go into the break down 36-37. Missouri S&T would build the lead up to as many as 12 at one point in the fourth before small runs by the Bearcats to bring the final score to 68-79 in the Miners favor.
Southwest Baptist had a balance scoring attack with four players scoring in double digits.
Kyleigh Vaught and
Regan Tibbits led the Bearcats with 15 points followed by
Megan Worthington and
Rachel Tippens with 10 points apiece.
Nyah Pettus shined across the board with an impressive 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block. As a team the Bearcats went 7 for 20 from the three-point line and had 6 players finish with 4 or more rebounds.
Southwest Baptist will be traveling to play a 1-3 McKendree University on December 14
