Evansville, Ind. - Southwest Baptist hung with the Screaming Eagles but were unable to get a few extra baskets to fall and lost 63-70. This makes SBU 7-4 (1-2 GLVC) on the young season.
The Bearcats got out to an early 9-5 lead on 4 points by
Bailey Rezabek and 3 by
Kyleigh Vaught. Screaming Eagles ended up going on a small late run to take a 15-13 lead into the break. Second quarter yeilded close to the same with the Bearcats and Screaming Eagles traded baskets to finish with the Bearcats still only down two. At the half
Kyleigh Vaught was the leading scorer for the Bearcats with 10 and
Bailey Rezabek led in rebounding with 5.Â
Southern Indiana extended their lead more in the start of the second half but SBU had a few threes fall to give them a lead. Southern Indiana kept it tight and were able to maintain their 2 point lead 50-48. Southwest Baptist needed a rally in the fourth quarter to pull out their second road win of the year. Despite 11 points from
Bailey Rezabek the Bearcats fell too far behind and were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 70-63.
Rezabek and Vaught led in scoring with 19 and 16 followed by
Piper Francis coming off the bench to contribute 11 points.
Taliayah Wilson was able to grab 10 rebounds to help lead the Bearcats as well. Southwest Baptist will be back in action at home on January 9th at 5:30 PM. Come out and support your Bearcats!
