Louisville, Ky. - Southwest Baptist came up just short in the first of a two game road trip losing 60-86 to Bellarmine University. This pushes the Bearcats record to 9-8 (3-6 GLVC) for the season.
Alexus Johnson got the scoring started for the Bearcats with a 3 at the 8:42 mark in the first for a quick 3-0 lead. Bellarmine would come back and take the lead but SBU regained the lead on a pair of free throws by
Zahria White. SBU would extend the lead to 3 but the Knights went on a 16-2 run to take an 11 point lead that would not be surrendered. The Bearcats were down at the end of the quarter but
Alexus Johnson cut into the Kinghts lead slightly with a few key baskets. Johnson finished with 10 points in the first half as well as 6 from
Zahria White to pace the Bearcats. Johnson also had 7 boards at the half for the Bearcats.
The Knights struck first in the second half but
Sydney Bandy made a deep three to get the Bearcats on the board in the second half. SBU would trade baskets with Bellarmine but were unable to cut into the lead with the Knights leading by 23 at the end of the third quarter.
Piper Francis kept her scoring going in the fourth with a quick jumper to draw first blood in the fourth. SBU couldn't quick complete the comeback in the fourth and ended up dropping the game.
Piper Francis shined in the second half scoring 11 of her 15 points down the stretch.
Zahria White also grabbed 7 boards for the Bearcats along with
Alexus Johnson's 7 rebounds.
