Bearcats Down Panthers 82-74 in Bolivar

Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats knocked off rival Drury University for the first time in 8 years in Bolivar, Missouri. SBU won the high intensity matchup by a score of 82-74. The Bearcats continue their hot second semester improving to 13-3 (6-2 GLVC).

The Bearcats started the game off strong with a three pointer off the glass by Brady Smith. Three straight wide open layups by the Bearcats with assists from Smith made the game tied at 9 going into the first media. Smith then hit two free throws giving him five points and three assists, 5 minutes into the game. A run by the Panthers put them up 16-21 with 11:12 to go in the first. SBU retaliated with a 7-0 run to force the Panthers to call a timeout. Baskets from Godfrey Rolle, Brady Smith, and Damian Prgomet gave the Bearcats a 38-32 lead with 1:30 to go in the first. A run by the Panthers closed the gap with SBU leading 39-38 at half.

The teams fought back and forth to start the second half but a steal by Smith led to a big three by Rolle to tie the game at 49 with 14 minutes remaining. That three led the Bearcats to hitting two more three's in the coming minutes to give them a 56-50 lead. A three by Quinn Nelson, a layup by Tyler Williams, and a dunk by Prgomet gave the Bearcats an 11 point lead; their largest of the night. SBU led the game 70-60 with 5:17 to go in the game before the Panthers clawed back. Drury was within three points with 1:52 to before the GLVC Player of the Week Quinn Nelson knocked down his third three of the game. After that big time shot, the Bearcats never let up and beat their fellow I-13 Cats 82-74.

Brady Smith put up 29 points in his highest scoring game of the season. He shot 81% from the field while pulling down 7 rebounds, dishing off 5 assists, swatting away one shot, and snagging one steal. Quinn Nelson and Damian Prgomet both knocked down 13 points, with Mitch Ganote making it in the double digits with 11. The Bearcats continued their hot streak, going 50% from the field. SBU felt charitable tonight scoring 27 of their 82 points from the charity strike.


The Bearcats look to continue their win streak as they travel to Louisville, Kentucky this Thursday to take on the #1 ranked Bellarmine Knights. The tipoff is scheduled for 7:30, with the game being streamed online for free at GLVCsportsnetwork.com.
