Rolla, Mo. – Southwest Baptist started the game slower than expected and found themselves in an early hole but hung close and pulled out the comeback, winning 85-78. This win helps to improve the Bearcats record to 9-5 (3-3 GLVC) for the season.
The Miners started out hot with a 15-6 run through the first 7 minutes of the game. The Bearcats cut into the lead slightly before the end of the quarter but a late three kept the lead at 11 for the Miners. The second quarter started off a little better with the Bearcats scoring 3 points within the first minute.
Piper Francis had a big 3 to cut the lead to seven 3 minutes into the quarter. The Miners would then stretch the lead back out to 15 before SBU went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead down to five. Missouri S&T would make two free throws to take a 7-point lead into halftime.
Alexus Johnson got four quick points to bring the Bearcats closer and kickstart the 10-2 run to gain a 1-point advantage. S&T came back with a couple baskets for another lead change and kept the lead until the Bearcats tie it up with 4:57 left in the quarter. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter with the Miners making the last blow to take a 2-point lead into the last quarter. Southwest Baptist stayed close with the Miners the entire fourth quarter and pulled away late with
Kyleigh Vaught and
Bailey Rezabek making clutch shots and free throws.
